Event Listing Sites in Kerala Compared: Reach, Cost and Who Is Actually There
A plain comparison of where to list a Kerala event: ticketing platforms, tourism pages, social media, groups and hyperlocal apps, judged on audience and effort.

You have an event and a limited amount of time to promote it. Which listing sites deserve that time?
The short answer: match the platform to who is actually on it. Ticketing platforms suit paid urban events and are close to useless for free ones. Tourism and district pages carry the famous festivals and update slowly. Social media has reach but no structure, so people cannot find you unless they already follow you. Hyperlocal discovery apps, EventifyPlus among several that exist in this market, aim at people searching for what is on nearby. Most organisers should be in two or three places, not one.
Ticketing platforms
Who is there: people who already decided to spend money on going out, usually in a city, usually for a known category like a concert, comedy show or film screening.
Effort: moderate. You are setting up a product, not writing a listing.
Cost: a cut of each ticket, plus payment charges. Rates and terms differ by platform and change over time, so read the current agreement rather than trusting what someone told you last year.
Worth it when: you are selling tickets and want the payment handling done for you. Not worth it when entry is free, since there is nothing for the platform to process and often no way to list.
Tourism and district government pages
Who is there: visitors planning a trip, and people looking up the big fixtures.
Effort: low for you, because you usually cannot add yourself. These pages are curated.
Cost: none.
Worth it when: your event is one of the established ones. A small programme at a village shrine next Thursday will not appear, and there is rarely a way to submit it. For those, a note to the district desk of a Malayalam paper is the more realistic route.
Social media pages and groups
Who is there: everyone, but only in fragments. Your followers, plus whoever a forward reaches.
Effort: high and repeated. Every message you send has a short life, so you send more of them.
Cost: free to post, and paid reach is available at prices that vary by season and audience.
Worth it when: you have an existing following or a set of group admins who will forward for you. Its weakness is search. A person who thinks "what is happening in town this weekend" cannot answer that question on social media without already knowing what to look for.
Community groups and association lists
Who is there: a defined group of people who already trust the person forwarding.
Effort: low per message, but you need the relationships first.
Cost: free, except in goodwill. Do not overuse it.
Worth it when: your audience matches the group. This remains the highest converting channel for most small Kerala events, and it is the one that word of mouth actually means.
Hyperlocal event discovery apps
Who is there: people searching for what is on near them, including for free events that never appear anywhere else.
Effort: low. One listing, kept accurate.
Cost: varies by app. Check before you assume.
Worth it when: your event is local and open to the public. This category is where temple festivals, Onam programmes, boat races, Kathakali and Theyyam performances and neighbourhood carnivals tend to be missing from the other channels. Write the entry so both Malayalam and English readers can act on it.
EventifyPlus works in this space and is live in Kerala, covering exactly those kinds of events. It is not alone. Other apps and pages compete for the same listings, and the honest way to choose is to search for events in your own taluk on each one and see which actually has them. Coverage depth differs by district, and the app with the better marketing is not always the one with the better listings.
How to choose without wasting a week
Answer four questions:
- Is the event paid or free? Paid opens up ticketing platforms. Free rules most of them out.
- Is the audience defined or open? Defined means groups first. Open means discovery apps and social media matter more.
- Is it local or a destination event? Local favours hyperlocal listings. Destination favours tourism pages and anything visitors read.
- Is this a one off or recurring? Recurring events earn the effort of building a following in one place.
A reasonable default
For a small, free, local event: a hyperlocal listing, plus messages to two or three group admins, plus posters near the venue, spread over a ten day promotion calendar.
For a small paid event: a ticketing setup for payments, a hyperlocal listing for discovery, and the same group messages.
Then measure. Ask everyone at the gate how they heard about it and write the answers down. After two events you will know which of these platforms is worth your time in your district, which is a better guide than any comparison written by someone who was not there.
